We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:
So…… I am used to going to the gym Mon - Fri in the morning before work where I do 20mins cross trainer (aim to burn 200 kcals) then 200 sit ups then a cool down. Now Im going on holiday in less than 2 weeks and really want to see a difference before I go so I am going to do the gym session in the morning and then a swim session for 45 minutes after work in the evening. Obviously my diet will be perfect (Im on WeightWatchers so it is healthy). Should this make a difference within the fortnight? and am I at risk of over doing it or should this be ok for a healthy 26 yr old?
Please let me know what you think
Many thanks
I’m around 120kg (quite a bit of fat, sadly) and I can burn around 170-175 calories in *10* minutes by going fairly vigorously; it sounds like you’re doing the cross-trainer at a somewhat more leisurely pace. Up the speed, get better results. 200 sit-ups a day does nothing except tighten your stomach, it doesn’t zap belly fat (even if you don’t have any) and I’d say you’re pushing your abs quite hard as you’re not giving them a day’s break once in a while. How are your other muscle groups doing? (arms, legs, back, shoulders, chest). The swimming will be good as that’s an all-round go but if you concentrate on other places when you’re giving your abs a rest you can put better muscle elsewhere and then - ta da! - burn more calories. I think every lb of muscle gained burns an extra 50cal a day by *itself*.
Oh, and when you’re on holiday don’t pig out or relax *too* much or it’ll all go to pot. If you can stay fairly active at least 1 or 2 days during it that will help - go for an evening jog/walk with someone around town or in the country, especially if you’re there for sights.
I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
Pomegranate juice is a effective step which plays a vital role in reducing body weight. It generally burns the fats deposited in the body parts especially under belly and thighs, eventually providing perfect shape to the body. Pomegranate juice contains less quantity of sweeteners, and is rich in minerals and vitamins, helps in reducing body weight. Antioxidants present in pomegranate juice helps in cutting down the fats from the body part.
I also opted for pomegranate juice and lost 20 pounds in 3 months. I started this process with self determination and kept myself away from junk food or unhealthy food products. After 3 months I was surprised after looking at my body figure
I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:
Breakfast - 45g oats with raisins and peanuts (salted), mug of white coffee
Lunch - only vegetables (usually a home made salad or something) and 2 apples
Back from school - cereal like fruit and fiber, or some more oats
Dinner - pasta or potatoes, maybe some beans or something.
I don’t eat after 7, bed at usually 9.30 - 10ish.
8 glasses of water throughout the day. On school days I don’t have time to exercise
Usually I’ll go for a 20 min run a week.
Daily I do 50 sit ups, 25 leg raises, and lift some weights.
How can I lose weight?
Thanks for any advice.
What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…
This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:
This week’s question is as follows:
First off, check out my diet program on the homepage: Judy Weight Loss. Secondly, here are some helpful tips:
- Re-examine the reasons why you want to lose weight. Cut out some pictures from magazines of how you'd like to look, and also break out pictures of how you looked before your weightloss, and stick them on the fridge and food cabinets. It'll remind you of how you don't want to become and where you really want to be at the time you're making a judgement about what foods to eat.
- Wear a pair of jeans that is really tight around your waist. (around the house probably is best
). It'll make you think about your stomach more and motivate you to eat less and work out more.
- Limit the amount of times you eat out per week, or if you eat out, have them bring out a take-home box when they bring out your food so you can spoon out half to take home right away so it's not sitting there on your plate tempting you while you eat.
Hope that helps!
